Thanks, Donna.  Looked up the book and if that's who she is, she sounds great, but then all the instructors do.

Hi Everyone,

I just signed up for the novel course too. I was assigned to you Mary. I look forward to it. I haven't received the books yet but they should be here any day now. Smiley

You'll love it, Beverly.  I just sent in my second assignment.  Never wrote a novel before.  This is a great learning experience.

Hi Beverly, looking forward to hearing from you!  It's always fun when my students are on the Post a Note.  Hopefully your books will arrive pretty soon.   Smiley

Today I received an invite to take the novel course. I'm surprised because I wrote most of my BIP assignments as nonfiction. Only one was fiction and I can almost see it being expanded into a novel. However, I didn't mention my thought to anyone else.

Any idea why my instructor recommended me?

Ah, Ruthie, we recommend any student who has the prose ability to make use of it, since you can't take if without a recommendation.  I've had nonfiction students who came back to take the novel course either because they wanted to write a fiction novel or because they wanted to do a book length memoir.  Not all the students I recommend are ready to do a novel now, but later on, if they decide to, they can take the course.

Does that mean "once invited, always invited?" I do want to write a memoir; I'm just not ready to commit to the July classes. Can I wait to take the course t a later time?

Ruthie,

That is my understanding. Once invited always invited. Last fall i got the recommendation and the pamphlets about signing up for the novel course. One does have to have "something brewing" in his mind prior to signing up though. That's why I am waiting..  I need a couple solid ideas first.

Oh my! I'd better start thinking then.  I have only one idea and it's an extension of assignment 12 or very similar.

Yes, it's once invited, always.  You're not going to stop being qualified!

Yes, your instructor will ask for 2 ideas then help you decide which one is better. Good luck.

Ruthie I have finished the novel course. Mine was memoir. It was the best thing I ever did taking the course.

Thanks Ann. I never thought a "novel" course would apply to writing a memoir (not being fiction) until Mary's answer above. It's good to hear from someone that took the course for that purpose. I will think seriously about signing up after my finances improve somewhat.
