Hey, who are getting iphones in kindergarden?   Ebooks are only going to increase.  We have a generation that is reaching adulthood who mostly read onscreen.

That is SO sad!!  Nothing like a good old-fashioned book. And all these screens and computers are not good for the eyes!

I went to an SCBWI conference winter 2011. I met and talked with Rubin Pfeffer and some PB and MG authors. Many PB authors, in training, were given the same grim outlook. Authors were telling me PBs they'd been paid to write were either being totally scrapped or shelved for a year or two. (they got to keep their money Shocked) The word was, those that purchase most of the PB-Libraries and schools, have been purchasing less and therefore PB publications declined and will continue to do so until the market turns around. Mr. Pfeffer told me, although he liked my PB, I needed to prove I was more than a 'one trick pony.' Advice was to write a novel and maybe the PBs could be packaged with the novel. That's when I decided I needed to work on my YA novel. However, a SF novel has pushed it into the shadows. Until this novel is finished, there's no way I'll be able to finish the YA.

Anyway, I've found an artist who will work with me and I like his style for some of my PBs. Will definitely e-publish them when he's done.

As an author you need to be considering all the forms of publication.

print, audio, movie, digital, and especially for children's books-apps.

LOLLL!! i love u guys ur just as crazy as i am! Cheesy

and yeah Ann ur right, i think as a writer the options shud be open. its when as a parent that i encourage paper a whole lot more than digital stuff. my 9 yr old wud rather type than write by hand and punch keys on a calculator rather use her brain! we all know what its like Cheesy

y'all watched WALL-E? remember that scene where the captain orders the 'manual' to relay instructions? that'll be our grandkids!

Yeah, let's face it, while print books will not go away, the people who love them first is dwindling as those of us who grew up with them die out.   And you do have more than one generation who has grown up communicating and reading on a screen.  One person's comfort is another person's wad of paper.  The  danger is trying to stick your head in the sand and pretend it's 1988.

Mary i am so laughing at your comment 'those of us who grew up with them die out.' Maybe the big change will happen when all us 'baby boomers' drop off the perch. Mmmm 1988 was I that good looking...what happened. lol

What Mary?  I can't hear you because of the sand in my ears.  I love sand!
I am laughing Ann, about the perch thing. I love my perch. It's covered with sand and I'm staying on it.  Cheesy

Hey, Liz, sand is fun to play in,  nothing wrong with enjoying it!   Cheesy  You don't have to embrace change unless it's a matter of life or death...and then you still don't.   Wink  But paper versus e-ink is hardly life and death!

Gonna be giving a talk on promoting for indie and small press authors to the Northwest Book Publishers in April. That'll be cool.  Just got the invite.
