First time it's ever happened.  Had the email for something like 8 years, and yesterday afternoon, it was hacked.  Whoever it was sent out all of those "work from home" types of emails as well as others.  What's frustrating, besides the fact that family and friends received these is that some of the editors that I send stuff to were also emailed.  It's just been one of those weeks.  This has been on top of about a dozen or so other issues that all decided to pop up together.

Oh, and sorry Mary.  You were on the list as well....

That has happened to me before. I've also gotten emails from people and can tell it was because they were hacked. I'm sure it's so commonplace now everyone knows what it is.

Don't leave your email open for long periods and change your password periodically

Brandon, so sorry you’re having to deal with this!  My sister also went through the same thing a while ago, and yeah, not fun!  Hope you get everything straightened out soon. Smiley

Not just your email, but anything the hackers can get hold of.

I had a similar conversation with my bank as I am so careful with my bankcard, it never leaves my hands, and my husbands hands his all over the place. The bank said it's not how careful you are or aren't, but how much you use it. The more you use it, the more likely it'll be 'when' not 'if' as winterpk noted.

The reality is that the  hackers are always ahead of security and it's mostly a matter of numbers...there are a LOT of people and we all hope they  miss us in the crowd.   Just be prepared and be careful about passwords and such.  And backup all your work somewhere other than on your computer.

Mary,

Great idea. I have my stuff backed up on three computers and two sticks. And one of the computers is not allowed to access the internet. (my orders)

The author, Hawk Mackinney, wore three sticks around his neck at all times. They were his back ups. I met him in 2007. He was a funny and enjoyable man who kept his audience captivated until he decided it was time to leave. He stayed longer than he was scheduled. He lives in Georgia.

mentioning emails and now it's my moblile phone. Just got into bed last night when it rang text message, thought it was no 3 daughter telling me about another nursing degree assignment. I got up to read it.
Your mobile #won 900.000 English Pounds in Apple Inc. Mobile Promo etc It gave me a code number and then wanted all my details, age, occupation emailaddress/mobile then send all that to an email address. Walla i'd be quite wealthy...as if.

i called the bank. they'd taken care of it (thank you God!). next called experian and FTC and got an affidavit and a fraud alert on my credit files. took me all day!!!! i mean what kinda lowlife would do that! :/
