Hi Mary,
I was stalking the articles for writers when I came across your article http://www.longridgewritersgroup.com/rx/wc05/color_me_happy.shtml

Do you have a visual example  showing how you use the crayons to show the lightness and darkness in a story or article?  I like the idea, but I'm struggling with finding something similar as a visual example.

Hi, amoms.  Well, I was using the crayons metaphorically, of course.   Wink  I don't have a visual example for you, but if you think about your word choices when you describe a scene, some words carry a sense of darkness (loomed, stooped) and others carry more of a feeling of light (soared, rose above).   Just think about the feelings that words evoke in you, and you're good.

I would suppose the crayons are more literal in chindren's books.  Bright colors for a good mood.  Blues and grey's (yes grey with an e) for sadness.

According to the Associated Press (AP) Styleguide, 'grey' is only used in the word 'greyhound' -- otherwise the appropriate use is always 'gray'. At least in America!  Smiley Smiley    Grey just does not look right.

I'm not so sure it's right or wrong.  I think it might be what you would call a ....... GREY area...
