Great!  Smiley

I love my Kindle. I do still read paper books - still enjoy paper books - but I love my Kindle.

I like how little it weighs. My hand doesn't get as tired holding it up. The screen with it's "electronic ink" is beautiful to read and easy on the eyes. The battery life between charges is very good as well.

Mine is the version with a button keyboard and I really like that for leaving my reviews and for occasionally making notes.

I have found that I do not like my Kindle as much for non-fiction books that are like self-help books or other books that get used in a reference book manner. It doesn't lend itself to looking back and forth for points you want to re-read or recheck as well as a paper book does.

My daughter also owns the keyboard Kindle and has had good service from it.

Love my Kindle!

I have the Fire and love that, but miss the e-ink.  Like the fact I can access live links, check email, bring up websites.  I preferentially get books in ebook form now.  I still love print books, but can carry one Fire on a conference trip including magazines, Asimov's, Analog, and a ton of books.  I can even bring student and client mss to read, saved to pdf format, woohoo!

Hey guys, could you explain these phrases to me: Kindle, Fire, e-link, e-book, Asimov's, Analog, and pdf format. I'm serious. I'm the least computer person you will ever know. The IBM electric typewriter was brand new when I was in High School and I didn't go to college. He'll, it took me until assignment 12 in BIP to figure out how to use the student center.

Help me out and go slow. I'm not that old, but I am that far behind.

Hi mbj. I'm almost with you.  LOL!! A Kindle is for downloading electronic books (e-books); Kindle Fire is the same but you can access movies, apps, games, music, reading and more. E-link is just an electronic link.  Asimov's and Analog are science fiction magazines.  PDF is a Portable Document Format.  I'm sure you've seen Adobe, that converts files to PDF and opens PDF files.  I was born in 57 but never used a typewriter!! You sound like my husband who is not interested in advancing past his cassette tapes - LOL!!!! Wink

Ok, let's not forget about the important stuff these Kindles and other E book readers can't do.

Advantage of real books over Kindles and other E Book readers:

Unlike the ebook reader real books:

Stand proudly on a book shelf to show off what one has read to others, or books one likes.

Aren't all in one place.. so if you lose one, you don't lose everything

don't need batteries

Don't make it feel like you are looking at a computer screen.

I'm sticking to reading actual books and magazines.

MBJ, my husband has 300 plus cassettes from when he taped the WCBS oldies show back in the 70s 80s. It's all music from the 50s and 60s you never hear anymore! He also has boxes and boxes of 45s from the 50s and 60s!   Smiley

David books still play a big part here and the library I go to is busier than ever. One of the moves they did was allow people to take out more books per month. There are and always will be those who for a start can't afford a kindle or whatever. The good thing is it's all about choices these days.

Choices are good!  And I've run out of wall space for books! I don't know how many thousand I own!  I like having stuff on the ereader but you know what? If the book is really awesome, I buy it in hardcover.

Mary... with all the writing, and teaching you do, where do you find time to read  thousands of books? Do you really have thousands? not an exaggeration?

David, I really do have thousands, although no, I have not counted them exactly, but several walls are entirely covered with floor to ceiling bookshelves. And honey, I have been reading voraciously since I was about five. That is plenty of time to have read many thousands of books!

I love wall to wall books, I have them too! So cozy!! I still have my original Raggedy Ann and Andy books my parents bought me in the sixties. Also all my original Nancy Drew books. And my Little House on the Prairie books. I could go on and on.  My coffee table has a shelf on the bottom of it and that is also filled with books. It's definitely possible to have read thousands of books if, like Mary, you start early, and I did!
