How can you find the thoughts and feelings of people in a rural area in the early 1970's? I have looked in newspapers from those areas and times and only found current events but no letters to the editor.

Have you tried the internet? Or books in the library that talk about the 70s?

If you have time and so-so people skills visit a retirement center. Have lunch in the dining hall and bring up the subject. You may get more info than you need. Good Luck!

A lot of former retired farmers and small town folks in a rural area gather for morning coffee at local cafes.  They love to talk about their former farms and complain about how family farms got sold out by the government bought out by the lobbyists of the corporate giants like Monsanta and Cargill.

Hi, Karl!

Great advice thus far!  You could also talk to family and friends who may have lived in rural areas during that time.  My folks and in-laws have some of the greatest stories, many of which have inspired ideas for future writing projects.

Don’t feel too bad, David, I wasn’t even born until the late 70’s.  Cheesy

I know, Ann  Wink  It just sounded funny! I graduated from high school in 1975.  I have a 35 year old son and a 30 year old son who has a 1 year old son, and sometimes I act as if I'm 14!! 16 on a good day...

Hey lizbeth, I said retirement center not nursing home. I think he would be looking for people who were adults, working and raising families, in the 70s. By the way--I'll turn 50 next Saturday. I was a busy girl in the 70s also.

Actually, I'd like a retirement center if it had a nice pool!  Smiley
