It's a sharing site that is generating a lot of sales for indie authors...you put stuff up there, directing readers to your site.  Many authors are putting stuff up there chapter by chapter to generate sales of the complete book.  http://www.wattpad.com/

Mary
If you can read it chapter by chapter when do you cut off so the reader wants to buy it to find out what happens next.

I don't see too many covers. And Ann, you don't cut it off. One of the oddities of the ebook internet reality is that people buy stuff in the form they want, even if they can read it for free.  No kidding.  Weird, eh?  You ca increase sales by doing wattpad, where people can download the entire thing for free.  You can see a spike in your paper book sales when you put your ebook out for free.   You can do all kinds of things to manipulate your sales.

i know right! writing has changed tremendously during the past decade or so!

and i also am seeing the truth behind publishers now. u just have to do the selling ur self unless its some big shot who's picked u up *read rarity!* and i see self-published authors much MUCH better handling their own sales and marketing when they dont have to follow guidelines and contracts of small time publishers...they can choose to market anyhow they like! thats awesome!

The real plus is that the books stay in print.  The NY publishers rarely keep a book in print for more than three years, unless it's a blockbuster and then it's gone.  New readers can only find what is in print and on the shelves.  Self published and most small press published books are in print indefinitely, so new readers have access to all your works.

yeah thats a good site Liz.

the worst thing i heard was the author couldnt offer any freebies or coupons, couldnt even cut down the price while all the other self-pub guys were doing it and spiking their numbers cuz of that - they're not millionaires true bt then neither are the others who DO have publishers.

it has me more convinced abt self publishing than ever!
