HELP

I have a short piece I have written to submit to a contest that I would like read and edited.  It is only 1338 words long.  It has to be submitted before the end of February. (I only found out about the contest this past week, that's why it is such short notice.)

Is there anyone willing to read/edit for me?

I'm not used to working with an editor and would prefer someone who can word things in a gracious manner.  I don't do well when handled with cold bluntness or sarcasm.

contact me as soon as possible at: radicalmomssr@yahoo.com

Does anyone here like to read vampire fiction by chance?  I'm dabbling in the fantasy genre and I just need another pair of eyes.  I'm the only one around my house with an interest in that sort of thing.  Let me know.  Thanx.student_fer_life@yahoo.com  Huh
I have a question if you don't mind. If the moons' light is reflected sunshine, why doesn't it bother Vampires?

Make up a reason and go with it.
It is fiction.

In "Twilight" vampires are out during the day ... just not in direct sunlight.

It is your world. Your rules.

And maybe 'reflected' is the answer. Direct sunshine isn't good for vampires, but reflected or indirect doesn't hurt them. I'd believe it if you told me that was the reason.

I think it's a matter of Universe. In Greek Legend, the reflection of the Medusa's Face didn't turn someone to Stone, but in the Rowling Universe, the reflection of a Basilisk would still paralyze. I'd recommend keeping your universe consistent except, Eric von Lustbader sold a lot of Wall-Bangers.

If you're looking for the technically correct reason, drawing on my experience from about fifteen millenia ago, a vampire basically appears as an Apparition, and it's just bloody dismal to have the Sun shining through your Apparition, not to mention the impression it makes, when people can see through you, but we mostly passed our preference for Moonlight off, as a reflection not carrying the same kind of Energy.

Buffyverse was completely wrong, by the way.  A Slayer's Power passes on, when the Slayer accepts Death, and that includes Whoopy. Amber was a universe, where the rules could vary, but we should have a care, whether the audience is ready for a Hell-Ride. Meta-Zelaznyan, the universe of The King In Yellow, managed to extend into Congress.

I would be happy to critique a manuscript for anyone wanting another opinion or suggestions on answers to questions.  My main interest is fiction though, as a graduate of the "Breaking Into Print" writing course I've done nonfiction as well.

One reason I'd like to do this is I know how difficult it can be to find useful advice from friends and relatives who don't want to hurt your feelings and who feel "it's all good." Another is this was one suggestion for reviving my own love of writing, which has been nil due to sporadic employment and diverting writing energy into jobhunting. And if that revives this will be good mental exercise for me which will sharpen my own skills.

You can be as explicit as you want on language, violence or sex scenes in fiction.  It's your manuscript and you have to be true to your own writing style.  Any viewpoint--devout to irreligious, capitalist to Communist, ultraconservative to ultra-liberal, hippie to three-piece suit--no matter, in fiction or not.  Even if it clashed with my values, my concern would be how well a viewpoint was argued, how credible the character's actions and dialogue, is there a bias either way in a piece that's supposed to be impartial, or if it's an "advocacy" spot, how well have you argued in favor or against the issue you're discussing?

I've been a bookworm since before my age was in double digits and have read a wide variety of materials.  My only limits are curiosity and/or an interest in the subject matter, so there's little chance I'll be grossed out by something you wrote!

I can be reached at penman_1998@yahoo.com and if you put "LRWG" in the subject line I'll be able to respond faster.
