My 500 word microfiction story, "Umbrella Coverage," was purchased by With Painted Words, an online literary journal that requires submissions to be related to a visual prompt. It's a cute little journal and the response time is less than a month. My story is online now: http://www.withpaintedwords.com/view_submission.php?sub_id=121.

Loved the story when it was simply a 'prompt' response, enjoyed it again as a money-making, confidence-building short. I would have commented earlier but I was busy sticking pins in effigies of everybody on this site who have been paid for their stories.

Thank you Amanda, for both the congratulations and the pin-sticking. I certainly won't get rich on the compensation, though.

I did rewrite the story extensively, including the ending revelation, before I submitted it, so it's quite a different story from the prompt version.

Nice going, Oceanscribe. Looks like a fun website. Perhaps I'll try their August prompt. I hope it's a picture of a raspberry bush.

Thanks Stan and Mary.

I just realized that I misnamed this post--I didn't win a cash prize for my first fiction acceptance, so technically, this story is my second fiction acceptance, but my first fiction "sale."

Stan: do try the August visual prompt.
